November 2016 Andy Murray - World Number 1 Many congratulations to IC of GB Member, Andy Murray, who is the new world number 1. This phenomenal achievement makes Murray the first British singles player to be world number one since the computer rankings began in 1973. Unfortunately, the crowning moment came when Milos Raonic was forced to retire before their semi final at the BNP Paribas Masters event in Paris, but nevertheless the number one spot was looking imminently probable and is of course thoroughly deserved. Having been crowned Wimbledon Champion and defending his Olympic singles title, 2016 has been a hugely successful year for Murray. He will now be looking to continue this momentum into the Barclays ATP Tour Finals in London, so that he can secure his number one spot into the New Year.
